چکیده

Since the Internet has been exploited in almost every field, network traffic itself and the performance of network devices became main issues to provide qualified services. So a lot of attempts to develop better machines, routers and web servers etc., have been made to serve better network performance. Recently there has been a growing interest in supporting extensibility in network switching elements, which include routers. This proposes the usage of general-purpose programmable platform carefully. Through utilizing off-the-self PCs and fast network interfaces, there have been attempts to make network components like routers. Even if there are several pros and cons when using general-purpose platform, its extensibility and programmability space can accept diverse attempts to come up with general routers. The Suez project can be an example of them. Suez is to develop router using a Myrinet-Based cluster system. In the Suez, through isolating the core router functions from the host, it can be beneficial to the performance of network routing. It does minimize the host level computation when the processes for packet forwarding in the router are performed. In this paper, we will design simulation model of Suez, which consists of two nodes-ingress and egress using SES/workbench.

A Cluster-based, Scalable Edge Router Architecture

One of the major challenges in designing computationally versatile routers, especially routers at the network edge, is to simultaneously provide both high packet forwarding performance and versatile packet processing capabilities. The diverse nature of packet processing dictates that router architectures be based upon general-purpose processors. However, the performance limitations of general-p...

Simulation Studies of Gigabit Ethernet Versus Myrinet Using Real Application Cores

Parallel cluster computing projects use a large number of commodity PCs to provide cost-e ective computational power to run parallel applications. Because properly load-balanced distributed parallel applications tend to send messages synchronously, minimizing blocking is as crucial a requirement for the network fabric as are those of high bandwidth and low latency. We consider the selection of ...

A Cluster-based Scalable and Extensible Edge Router Architecture

A major challenge in network router design is to provide both high packet forwarding performance and versatile packet processing capabilities at the edge of the Internet. This paper describes a scal-able and exetnsible edge router architecture called Suez, which supports a novel route aggregation caching scheme, a real-time link scheduling algorithm whose performance overhead is independent of ...

An Overlay-based Congestion Management for Differentiated Services Network

This paper presents a new overlay-based congestion management mechanism that provides the proportional fairness among competing aggregates and the improvement in packet loss ratio for Differentiated Services (DiffServ) network. In the proposed scheme, a QoS control packet is sent from the ingress to the egress router every fixed time interval. The ingress router employs a simple additive increa...

High-speed All- Optical Time Division Multiplexed Node

In future high-speed self-routing photonic networks based on all-optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) it is highly desirable to carry out packet switching, clock recovery and demultplexing in the optical domain in order to avoid the bottleneck due to the optoelectronics conversion. In this paper we propose a self-routing OTDM node structure composed of an all-optical router and demultiplex...
